September 2016. Veganz, an European market leader for branded vegan foods, receives a growth capital investment by Katjesgreenfood GmbH & Co. KG, a legally independent investment company of the Katjes Group.
Our client, Veganz, Berlin, was founded by Jan Bredack in 2011. Starting from a single all-vegan retail shop in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, it has quickly become Europe’s first vegan specialty grocery chain with a network of 10 retail outlets, throughout Germany, in Vienna and in Prague. Capitalizing on its market and product competence, the Company launched its own vegan products under the Veganz brand in early 2015. Since then, it has transformed to become the leader for branded vegan foods in the DACH region, offering the most extensive vegan product line in the retail market. Veganz puts particular emphasis on innovation, taste, and sustainability and is well known for its pioneer role in the vegan food ecosystem worldwide.
The young company is experiencing significant growth and expects to generate more than €30 million in revenue in 2016, mainly driven by several landmark distribution deals for its Veganz products in the German speaking region, such as in Germany with EDEKA, dm drogerie-markt or Kaufland, in Austria with Spar, in Switzerland with Coop. As a result, growing market penetration of Veganz products has enabled Veganz to position itself as a leading vegan consumer brand in Europe.
Veganz received a growth capital investment by Katjesgreenfood GmbH & Co. KG, providing financial support for its current growth strategy. Katjesgreenfood was only recently set up as a legally independent investment company of the Katjes Group to invest in the rapidly growing market for sustainable foods. "Since the conversion of our entire Katjes range to "veggie" (by doing without animal gelatin) we are aware of the strong consumer interest in a meat-reduced diet. Therefore, we also want to invest here outside our traditional confectionery range", Tobias Bachmüller, managing partner of Katjesgreenfood, explained.
